How Claude answers

Claude answers from what its model learned in training. With web search turned on, as it is in GoGetCited's checks, Claude decides when a question needs current information, runs searches, reads the results and cites the pages it used.

Anthropic's crawlers are ClaudeBot, which collects training data, Claude-SearchBot, which crawls pages to improve search results, and Claude-User, which fetches a page when someone asks Claude about it. Anthropic notes that blocking the search and user crawlers may make a site less visible in Claude's search results. It hasn't published how those results are chosen.

State facts plainly

Claude cites pages that back up what it says. Clear statements of what you offer, for whom and at what price are easier to cite than marketing copy.

Is this the same as using claude.ai?

Not exactly. GoGetCited records answers from Claude Sonnet with web search on, via Anthropic's API, not the claude.ai app. In the app, people can choose other models and settings, so their answers can differ.
