How Microsoft Copilot answers
Microsoft Copilot is Microsoft's AI assistant, available on the web and built into Windows, Edge and Bing. For questions that need current information it searches the web with Bing and links to the pages it used, so your visibility in Bing matters here, not only in Google.
Microsoft hasn't published in detail how Copilot picks the pages it cites. The way in is documented, though: a page Bing hasn't indexed is hard for Copilot to find, and IndexNow lets you tell Bing right away when a page is new or has changed.
How to get named by Microsoft Copilot
Check your pages in Bing
Copilot searches with Bing. Use Bing Webmaster Tools to confirm your key pages are indexed, as you would in Google Search Console.
Tell Bing about changes
Submit new and updated pages through IndexNow so Bing can crawl them sooner. GoGetCited can send IndexNow submissions for your site.
Let Bingbot in
Make sure robots.txt and your firewall allow Bingbot. GoGetCited's AI traffic report shows whether it visits, and which pages it reads.
Be on the sites it links
Check which sites Copilot links to for your prompts, and work on being mentioned there.
Questions about Microsoft Copilot
Why is Copilot in beta?
Collecting Copilot's answers only works some of the time today: a check can take a long time or come back empty. That's why it's off by default and marked Beta in the app.
Do failed Copilot checks lower my visibility?
No. A check that comes back empty isn't counted as an answer. Copilot also runs separately from your other engines, so a slow check doesn't hold them up.
Which Copilot mode do you ask in?
The one you choose per project: Quick response, Smart, Think deeper or Study and learn. Quick response is the default.
